Lumineers are a brand of porcelain veneers made by Den-Mat Corporation and are extra strong and a little bit thinner than other porcelain veneers. They can be just pasted or bonded over the top of your teeth with no drilling and add very little bulk to your teeth.

Properly placing Lumineers requires the artistic touch of a highly trained cosmetic dentist, and Lumineers have to be specially designed for the shape of your face. Where there is no tooth drilling on the teeth beforehand, certain parts of the smile design process can become quite complicated because your dentist is confined to working with the shapes of the teeth the way they are. Color control becomes difficult with such a thin veneer. Many factors including hue, translucency, color depth, brightness and highlights all need to be handled correctly for you to have a beautiful smile.

Advantages of Lumineers

• They are contact lens thin, roughly .2mm thick
• Little or no tooth reduction is necessary in most cases
• Anesthetics and numbing shots are not necessary
• Do not need to wear temporary veneers until Lumineers are created
• Last just as long as porcelain veneers
• Lumineers are reversible if no tooth reduction was necessary when they were first placed
• Cost less than porcelain veneers

Disadvantages

• Sometimes Lumineers are bulky-appearing and feeling due to there being little or no tooth reduction needed for their placement
